When you quit smoking you are rewarding yourself more than you will ever imagine. In the initial process of stopping smoking you may not feel that way. You may feel the cravings and withdrawals and think 'I can't do this.' But, if you are aware of the benefits that come after you have quit, you may be more inclined to see this thing through. You will be surprised at how much you are getting and getting t. back by quitting this unhealthy and nasty habit.
One of the quickest rewards you will get by quitting smoking is more money in your pocket. Smoking is an expensive habit. Consider this, most smokers smoke between 20 and 30 cigarettes per day. Some are markedly higher than that. But, for this moment we are going to focus on the smoker who has the pack and a half a day habit. The average cost for a pack of cigarettes is $4, so, an average smoker may be spending $6 a day on cigarettes. So, after one week of not smoking you will have saved almost $25. Those savings will keep adding up the longer you remain a non-smoker.
Another benefit that may take a little longer to feel the effects from is your health. After 5 to 10 years of being a non-smoker you will have the same risk of most diseases as a non-smoker. Right now, as a smoker, your risk of lung cancer, lung disease, heart disease, heart attack, stroke, and so on are much higher than a non-smoker. So, eventually you will be just like any other person who has never smoked before. In fact, if you are able to quit smoking before you experience any smoke related disease; in 5 to 10 years it will be as if you never smoked a day in your life!
Another benefit of quitting smoking is personal reasons. You no longer will reek of stale cigarettes. In fact, you are probably not fully aware of what you smell like right now. In a few weeks time you will be able to smell other people who smoke. You may be shocked to find out what you used to smell like! Furthermore, after you have stopped smoking your sense of smell will start to come back. That is another thing you may not have been aware of while you were a smoker. Your sense of smell is greatly reduced while being a smoker. Enjoy the heightened sense of smell, you earned it.
No longer will you be wishing for a cigarette when you are in a no-smoking facility. Many smoker s cannot even enjoy a nice outing with their family because they are so concerned about getting back to the car to smoke a cigarette. When you are a non-smoker you won't feel that way and you can sit and relax with your family.
If you are aware of the benefits you will receive by not smoking your chances of actually quitting are much higher. When you are in the process of quitting and hit a rough spot when you want to smoke, remember what you will gain by not smoking! The motivating factors of quitting may very well keep you from smoking that cigarette and put you on the track of being a richer, healthier, and better smelling person!
