One day you may decide that you are done smoking. Perhaps you heard of all the reports on how unhealthy smoking is, or a family member was diagnosed with lung cancer, or you realized the price of you smoking is hurting your budget. No matter why you have decided to quit smoking, the important part right now is that you have made the final decision.

However, your reason has to have some clout to it. For instance, if you have decided to quit smoking because your aunt will be visiting for 2 days and she can't stand the smell of cigarettes is not a good excuse for a variety of reasons. 1. When your Aunt leaves you will have nothing to keep you from lighting up, no reason to not start back up if her visit was the only reason you quit and 2. That would be you were quitting for somebody else. You need to want to quit for yourself.

If you take into consideration that for every person quitting smoking there are that many people who are just picking up the habit, you will realize how much nicotine has control over a person's body. You will also come to realize that you are not alone in your quest to quit smoking.

To start off on the right foot to quit smoking you must decide why you want to quit. Next, you need to decide how you are going to quit. Are you going to quit cold turkey? Perhaps you want to try the slow to quit method. In this method you cut back on smoking but don't quit all at once. You will, for instance, eliminate 3 cigarettes from your normal amount for the first week, eliminate 3 more the next, and so on until you no longer smoker. Or, you may wish to use a form of Nicotine Replacement Therapy such as nicotine patches or nicotine gum. Hypnotism is an option that some have reported good results with. Research these options and see if any would possibly aide you in stopping smoking for good.

To help you with whatever method you use to quit is to take out all things cigarette related from your home. This includes, but is not limited to, cigarettes, ashtrays, lighters, and the smell. To get rid of the smell from your home and clothes you need to wash all cloth material. For upholstery that cannot be washed, spraying them with Febreeze or something similar will help.

Quitting smoking is possible especially if you implement some of the strategies reported above.
