Trying to quit smoking cold turkey; smoking daily and then stopping all smoking at once, is one of the hardest ways to quit smoking and one of the most failed methods to quit. If you have tried to quit cold turkey before and failed, you are definitely not alone. However, just because you have failed at quitting smoking before does not mean you are always going to fail. You are not forever doomed to be a smoker. There are other methods to quit smoking besides cold turkey. Some options are to slowly quit, to use the help of smoking cessation products, hypnotism therapy, smoking cessation drugs, and so on. We will cover the quitting slowly method.

Being aware of the problems you had when you tried to stop smoking before will actually aide you in your next attempt. This is because you will know the main obstacles that affected your progress and will be wise as to how to avoid them. You may have learned that you are unable to quit all at once. If that is the case, quitting slowly may be more of a successful option for you.

Cutting out a few cigarettes from your normal smoking routine over a period of a week will help you to quit smoking by making you not feel as if you are suffering. If you have chosen to quit slowly my reducing the amount of cigarettes you smoke a day, make sure that you occupy yourself during the times you would have normally been smoking those cigarettes. For example, if you have decided that you will only smoke 1 cigarette on your lunch break instead of one, maybe you could go to lunch, visit with friends, and then smoke that cigarette right before you head back into the office. You have to find something to do during the time you would have been smoking so you don't dwell on the fact that you are missing out on something.

Decreasing your cigarettes by at least 2 cigarettes a day for a week will already start to help your overall health and well being. The more cigarettes you can cut out a day the better your health will get. With each passing week you can cut out 2 more from your daily amount. Before too long you will be down to only 2 cigarettes a day and not long after that you will be a fully fledged non-smoker. You may find that you are stuck at 2 cigarettes a day for more than a week. That is ok so long as you do eventually cut those out at well. By time you get to 2 cigarettes a day you will find that your willpower is exponentially higher than before and you may just have to grit your teeth and say 'no more' and finally become a non-smoker.
