There is a tendency when you have kids to put all of your time and effort into them and not give enough time and effort to your relationship. This is especially true if both people in the relationship share the responsibilities associated with raising the kids.

While it is important for your kids to have all of the support that they can get from both parents, it is also important for your kids to witness their parents in a loving and committed relationship. To ensure that you can give your kids this, you need to make sure that you are putting plenty of time and energy into building and maintaining a healthy relationship.

You might be thinking that you just don't have the time to give anything else to your relationship. This may or may not be true, what is true is that you have to make time for the relationship. If you don't create the time, it will never be found, and before you know it you and the person that you were once very close to will be strangers and the relationship will struggle. Now is the time to start making more time and more of an effort in your relationship to make sure that it will survive this time of your life.

There are some simple things that you can do to continue to nurture a healthy relationship even when you have kids such as:

Stay up 30 minutes later each night and enjoy the company of one another, Pick two nights each month that are date nights just for the two of you, Leave love notes for one another, Make sure that you hug and kiss one another every day, Share your hopes and dreams with one another, Surprise your partner with little gifts that show affection, Compliment your spouse, Ask how their day was and really listen to the answer, Call or email your spouse in the middle of the day just to say hello, Talk about your relationship not just your family

These are some simple ways that you can make sure that your relationship continues to thrive even after you have kids. Raising kids takes a lot of time and energy and it's easy to see how your relationship and the nurturing that it needs can quickly get away from you, but it doesn't have to.

You can have happy, healthy children as well as a very healthy relationship you just have to be willing to work at attaining both and keeping them both. When you make a commitment to your relationship and having it be as healthy as it ever was despite having kids, you'll find that making it so can actually be a lot of fun.
