Your inbox is probably constantly full of spam offers for curing your impotence. But these aren't necessarily the best option for you. Unless you've got a medical history of problems, impotence is almost certainly your body's way of telling you to clean up your act. Follow these tips to help get you back on track:

1. Quit smoking

Nicotine is addictive and the effects of smoking are bad news for anything to do with health. You've probably seen the warnings on the packets to stop smoking during pregnancy but thought they only applied to women think again! Cigarettes affect the amount of oxygen your body can absorb. Less oxygen won't help your erectile dysfunction problem. So at the very least cut down on smoking and ideally quit altogether.

2. Cut down on alcohol

After a long session on the booze, it's often called "brewer's droop". But even fairly low quantities of alcohol can lead to a reduction in your testosterone levels. This male hormone contributes to your sexual stamina. As with smoking, try cutting down the amount you drink even if you can't cut out alcohol altogether.

3. Check any drugs you're taking

Every prescription drug comes with a little leaflet that lists all the numerous side effects that can happen. Find that sheet of nasty small print, get out your magnifying glass if necessary and read the list. If any of the side effects could be impacting your impotence problem, talk to your doctor. Near enough every drug on the market has an alternative available. Speak to your doctor to find out if any of the drugs they have got you taking could be increasing your impotence problem. Be especially wary of drugs to treat high blood pressure, depression or a heart condition. But obviously don't just stop taking the drugs without checking with your doctor.

4. Eat well

Your diet is important. If you're living on a diet of junk food or other unhealthy foodstuffs, you need to change. Wean yourself off those burgers, fries and pizzas. Learn to notice your food again rather than eating on auto pilot. This doesn't necessarily mean eating up your greens like your mother told you. But you do need to pay more attention to what you are eating and make healthier choices.

5. Drink lots of water

Water is a natural way of detoxifying our body. The recommended amount is 8 glasses a day. Which may seem like an ocean's worth if that's the case, work up to this level. Cut out the sugar laden sodas and skip the diet versions as well (read up on Aspartame if you need convincing on this). Beware juices and smoothies their sugar levels are just as high as regular soda despite the healthier image they portray.

6. Relax

At least some of the problem is likely to be the worry that you are experiencing about your impotence problem. Take time out to relax and stop concentrating on the immediate problem. You may be pleasantly surprised at the result when you're not trying as hard.
